zèbre

Born in Iran in the late fifties, Khosro Berahamndi was raised in Tehran when Shah was in power. In his early twenties, during his technical studies at university, he let himself be carried away by the wind of the Iranien revolution and the dream of living in a free Iran. His dream was soon destroyed by the reality of the revolution. Deeply affected by the loss of his close friends, he left his native contry and foud refuge and safety in Rome after crossing two countries on foot. The sublime beauty of Sixtine Church in the ancient grand capital, directed him towards a new desire: painting.

At the beginning of the eigthies, Khosro arrived in Canada with a mind full of questions about his destiny. Without concrete answers to his interrogations, Khosro sougth a second refuge in which he could express his dismay and find an answer to his existential quest.

He studied fine arts in the University of Western Ontario. His first course with the painter Paterson Ewen, gave him courage to undertake the difficult approach to artistic creation. Khosro finished his bachelors at Concordia University in Montreal and continued his studies at the University of Paris VIII.

After his studies in Paris and his return to Montreal, he turned his attention towards a more fantasy based language that would replace the imagination and dream with despair and horrific human experience. He concentrated his attention towards the Iranian literature and mythology, while looking in to the culture of visionary miniature of the Indo-Iranian experience of 11th to 16th century for inspiration.

Currently based in Montreal, he has participated in over 20 exhibitions in Canada, Europe and the United States. His past exhibitions include Tremblement d’Éon at the gallery DAR-DAR, Montreal, in February 1990; Dessert pour le Cerf at the gallery Cerf Art, Paris, France, in February 1997; and Pâturage Lunatique, Sacred Art, at Gesù - Center of creativity, Montreal, November 2004, and Tremblement d’oeil at Maison de la culture du Plateau Mont-Royal, 2006.

Khosro works as the general director of Montreal Asian Heritage Festival Accès Asie. He teaches painting and drawing in various private and public places.

Gaining his inspiration from the eyes of the others, the words of the poets, and the notes of the musicians, Khosro Berahmandi dreams of a harmonious future through artistic creation.

One is born while meeting the other; grows under one’s own eyes and dies under the eyes of the myth.
