NOSTALGIA OF BLUE

"About three years ago and during a visit to Toronto, while my subconscious was still religiously suppressing my nostalgic sentiments; perhaps to facilitate the adaptation to my new country, I was invited by a dear friend to an Iranian Vodka bar called Banoo (Lady) in the Queen West Street.

In that hot, humid summer mid-day and under the mild spell of some fine vodka, an overdosing amount of acute nostalgia, managed to escape to the surface, under the astounded gaze of my lethargic brain.

To my surprise and amidst all the elements emanating nostalgia, I was affected, neither by a steaming Samovar in the corner nor by the fragrance of the Persian cuisine, neither by the pictures on the wall nor by the traditional Iranian tea cups, but strangely, shockingly, by some seemingly insignificant little Blue tiles, covering the surface of the table.

In my latest trip to Iran, I searched the old city of Yazd; arguably the land’s best preserved “old urban architecture”, for that nostalgic blue.

The pictures in this collection have been taken in passing. No tripod, no planning ahead, no return to the same location and no waiting for the ideal light. One camera, one lens, very limited time and tons of nostalgic blue for building some nostalgic memories."
