Bahram DABIRI was born in December 1950
(Sagittarius) year of Tiger in Shiraz, one of the most ancient and cultural cities of Iranian civilization, to a
family with long cultural roots. He grew up surrounded by
poems of Saadi and Hafez and influenced by great Iranian
thinkers such as Roumi. The significant historical monuments
surrounding the city of Shiraz, Takht-e-Jamshid
(Persepolis) and the magnificent relief works of Naghsh-e-Rostam, also made a great impact on him and allowed him to dream about reviving the greatness of Iranian culture. |
Bahram Dabiri graduated from Tehran University of fine
arts in 1976. He believed in graphical beauty and elegance
of Iranian culture. He studied profoundly the Manichaean
paintings and Shiraz School (school which had significant
influence on the 20th century European painters such as Henri Matisse). He relentlessly and determinedly continued
his search for a new innovative language in modern
Iranian painting and at last found a contemporary language in
which he was able to maintain the memory ofTakht-e-Jamshid
and the aesthetic values of ancient Iranian culture by using color
and mythical symbols in his paintings. |

Baharam Dabiri believes that art and science are rooted in
eastern culture and what is known by most critics to be a
copy of western art is in fact Dabiri’s modernization of
eastern tradition. By combining these traditions, Dabiri
achieves a medium where there exists no west or east let
alone boundaries, lines or frontiers.
Being aware of the importance of functional arts in the history
of Iranian art, Dabiri was inspired to implement his
creativity in other ways; ceramics, felt rug (Namad), Gabbeh
and metal parts.
Baharam Dabiri’s main themes in his paintings are
women, love and material symbols.
“What one sees in the work of Baharam Dabiri is order
and spontaneity… easy understating of elements and liberal
use of color is what he masters in” wrote the Spanish
magazine Absolute Marbella on its October 2001 issue. |
Finally Time Magazine, on June 12, 2000 described
Bahram as a modern painter who believes in beauty. Since
Dabiri believes that women are the most beautiful creatures,
he paints beauty, women and colors no matter what the social
condition may be. |
